How much is the award?
The award funds a summer experience (up to $5,000) and half the cost of in-state attendance (regardless of scholar’s residency status) for the scholar’s senior year.
Who is eligible?
Carolina juniors with a minimum of 48 credit-hours are eligible to apply, and the scholarship will apply to their senior year.
Is there a GPA requirement?
Yes, applicants must have at least a 3.0. However, GPA is not considered by the selection committee.
Who can write my recommendation?
The recommender may be anyone who has played a supervisory role (i.e. faculty, staff member, student, job/internship supervisor, coach, captain, etc.) over the applicant. For example if you served as a member treasurer, vice president, etc. under the president of a student organization, this person can write your recommendation. A professor of UNC-Chapel Hill may write one as well. The applicant need not be currently employed by, in association with or taking a class from this recommender. The recommender also does not have to be affiliated with UNC-Chapel Hill. Please send them this survey link to complete.
On what basis will this be awarded?
We are looking for the applicant who has demonstrated academic matriculation, personal development and leadership and/or service since coming to Carolina. The applicant should have a passion that they are committed to and enthusiastic about.
Are transfer students eligible?
Transfer students must have completed 48 credit-hours, including their current semester’s credit-hours, at UNC-Chapel Hill. Transfer students can email firstname.lastname@example.org with any further questions about eligibility.
Do I have to have my summer experience planned?
No, you don’t need to have your summer experience planned. If you are invited to the second round of the application process, you will be asked to discuss your ideas for your summer experience. However, we expect to help you develop your summer experience plans if you are chosen to be an Eve Carson Scholar.
Can I be awarded the scholarship if I am already receiving financial aid of another kind?
A student already receiving another full, merit-based scholarship is not eligible to apply. Students receiving partial merit scholarships or need-based aid are still eligible to apply. Finalists for the award will be asked to disclose information regarding any need or merit based aid they are currently receiving. NCSSM graduates ARE eligible to apply.
